OpenAI published a series of research findings over three years examining vulnerabilities in neural networks and machine learning systems. Beginning in June 2016 with identification of concrete safety problems, researchers documented how adversarial examples could fool machine learning models and explored methods to create robust inputs resistant to attacks. By August 2019, the work expanded to testing neural network robustness against unforeseen adversaries, highlighting ongoing challenges in ensuring AI system reliability and security as the technology sees wider deployment.
